The distribution of a suitably defined azimuthal angle in diffractive deep inelastic scattering contains information on the polarisation of the exchanged photon. New results from inelastic two-body scattering reactions are reviewed. Although predictions of SU(3), factorization and simple Regge theory are found to be qualitatively in agreement with the data, direct channel or absorption effects afford the simplest interpretation of the detailed features of the scattering amplitudes.

Recent deep inelastic results from the H1 collaboration are presented. The topics covered include inclusive diffractive physics, the determination of αS using the event shapes, the study of the hadronic final state at low x with single particles and with jets, the structure function measurements in particular F p 2 at low Q and the high Q physics both in neutral and charged current.
